[GH] This is Jeff Wagner's second photo (attached).
[GH] From Gary Davison :
Gordy,
I am glad to see that other think as I do, that the cast, which includes the creation of the loop, starts from the ground up.
I hope this will increase the importance of the Stance to everyone, and it's affect on our body movements when setting up to make a cast.
It is the foundation.
Body - Rod - Line!,

Gordy,
Not having much education so I can't explain mathematics when fly-casting. But I am able to get people casting reasonably well in very short time. Often a person new will be fly casting throwing nice loops in less than ten minutes with no serious discussions about mechanics or mathematics.
I agree with Ed. You get a wide or narrow loop, a tailing loop, line and leader at the end jumping to one side, creep and the other good and things occurring in a cast by what the hand does and the hand starts all those motions at the rod butt that eventually travel to the rod tip.
That's why I have always concentrated on what the hand, forearm and elbow does.
Lefty
