Walter & Group.....
I had discussed knots in Gelspun material such as Spectra with Lefty.
He had done a great deal of testing and told me he'd come to the conclusion that
the only true 100% loop, "knot" in this materal was the COAXIAL CABLE
CONNECTION.

Here is his latest message on this loop (Check out his attachment):-
Hi Gordy-
The REAL expert on the coaxial loop--and on many other things in fly fishing
is Max Garth. He drove 600 miles to meet me in the 1980's when I made my first
visit to Australia. He didn't know
another saltwater fly fishermen in Australia.
We
have corresponded ever since--he's a pretty sharp guy--manned a
tracking station during the moon exploratory shot.
The following is an e-mail I sent Max
hoping he had something you could look out--I think
the attachment is just what you want. IT IS THE ONLY 100 per cent knot that I have tested in gel
spun--and I am sure you know about Loctite 406--incidentally, Max was the
one who introduced 406
to the fly fishing public.
If you have any
other questions on this e-mail me.
All the
Best,
Lefty

Lefty...
Thanks
! I'll try it.
I have used
Loctite 406 ...... Great stuff. Doesn't degrade in tropic sun or salt
water, either.
Back when
Kevlar line came out as well as with the first other Gel Spun products, I tried
a similar loop, since we'd used it in Dacron for years (I had no name for
it).
Problem was,
that while it was easy to do in the brands of Dacron we were using because the
stuff was hollow, the new materials were so small in diameter and tightly woven
that we couldn't even tell if they were hollow ..... couldn't even get a needle
or wire in them.

COMMENT: As I've mentioned, previously, I
have had no trouble with the modification of the Bimini Twist I've been
using. This modification is simple: 30 turns instead of 20,
and the use of a 6X or even 8X multiple half hitch finish knot. I have not
tested this against the coax cable connection, but I will. Any difference
may not be significant for real world fly fishing because of the fact that I've
been using 50 lb. test Gelspun material. We'll see.
One advantage
of the coax cable connection I can see, is that it is super
smooth.
