    Walter & Group..........

I WILL BE AWAY FROM MY MAILLIST CONTROLLER FOR THE NEXT 6 DAYS.

    GORDY

    From Ken Cole:-

    Evening, Gordy

Leader #1 might make a good nymph leader when fishing shot and an indicator, as in a tuck cast.

Leaders #2, 3 and 4 all have a built in hinge at the butt that won't allow the energy to pass from the fly line into the leader.

Leader #5 would make an ok bass bug or schooling white bass leader. Maybe even river-run stripers.

Leader #6 could be tweaked into a good dry fly leader.

All of these formulae are dependent on the addition of tippet, except #5.

On the issue of lightening strikes, I noticed the absence of Lee (Super-Mex) Travino's solution. He said to hold a one iron high over your head, claiming God couldn't even hit a one iron.

    Welcome to Summer, Ya'll

    Ken,

Good calls !  With leaders #2, #3 & #4, that, "hinge" will result in a collapsing presentation.

    From Mack Martin:

I think the best answer is to consider what weight fly you are turning over and the relationship of the energy in motion that must be transferred by the leader based on K=1/2MV².

    Mack...

Can't argue against that.  Ken and I made the assumption that a small, essentially weightless fly was involved.  While the basic principles remain unchanged, the weight and wind resistance of the fly will make a big difference.

Having said that, I don't see that #s 2, 3 & 4 will turn any fly over very well.

    From Gary Eaton :

    Gordy,

The current MCCI test has an accuracy roll cast but there is a new version that has been kicked around for about a year that includes a hauled roll cast. Another change is a specified sequence for accuracy targets, I think. My casting skills can handle either requirement, I am just curious as to the timetable and process.
What process does the BOG go through to make the change official?
When will the "new" MCCI test be the required performance test?

    Thank you,

    Gary:

Dusty Sprague, as you may know, is chairman of the MCCI Testing Committee.  Either he or his designee on that committee will be giving their report with recommended changes to the CBOG at our next meeting at the conclave at Whitefish Lake in late July.

Before going to the new changes, the board will deliberate and then vote on these changes and suggestions.

There probably will be changes in the target sequence for the accuracy casts and good clarification so each candidate will know exactly what to do.

As I understand it at present, the only roll cast where a haul may be used is the distance roll cast.

I'm sure that the Master Study Protocal will be changed once these decisions have been made.
