Subject: RE: Hot and cold fly rods Howdy Group
Last summer at my Spey Casting Class Waxing and Taping of the Spey
rods was required.
As a builder most failures of muilt section rods, the failure is at
a lose ferrule. Working lose in the Cold or cooler temperature does
happen.
Here in Texas we can have the line freezing in the guides in the
morning and sticking to a hot deck in the afternoon. Add to this if you leave
your rod and reel in the trunk or under the backseat the temperatures can sore
in the sun to well over 130 degrees. Then take it to a tailrace and drop it in
the 50 degree waters. This shocking of a line and ferrules is tough on them to
say the least.
