Gordy and all,
I believe Gordy covered the loop size and nothing needs to be added. Regarding ask for info above and beyond what is required. There are many thoughts on this and here are mine.
In relation to the time that the performance and orals can take, we strive to complete the exam within 3:30 hrs, I will not ask for many additional demonstration, but will try to cover items with oral questions.
I believe that an examiner needs to inform the candidate of additional demos and that's he has fulfilled the requirement and we are just looking to see what additional material they may know. I am always amazed by candidates and their knowledge and look fwd to learning from them.
I have on occasion noticed examiners that are looking for a certain explanation and caution them that they may not like how the information was expressed but the answers were correct, just expressed differently.

[GH] Joe:
Thanks.
I would take issue with an examiner who insists upon an explanation using only his own "pet" word descriptions.

Pat Blackwell is a Masters candidate. This from him:
Hi Gordy,
As a measuring unit for loop size, lets remember that a 4 pc 9' foot fly section is approximately 29". I've rarely seen any cast, other than a short cast or some of the tournament casters achieve that tight a loop.
As a CI I feel if I can keep my long cast loops at half a rod length or under with parallel loops and no waves too be good cast. When my medium length cast are a section and a half or under again with parallel legs and no waves I feel that I'm having a good day.
I would hope that when it comes time for me to take the MCI exam that the examiners would feel that those types of cast were acceptable.
Best Regards
Pat Blackwell

[GH] Pat,
As I pointed out in our last message, a loop which actually was measured at about 3' appeared to observers to be about 2'.
If your small loops are typically appearing to be 29", that's getting very close.
Gordy
