Walter & Group...
[GH] From Bob Rumpf :
Hi Gordy,
Being in the out-of-print angling books and literature business, I do book searches on a daily basis. I get to see thousands of books and many books on casting which I now actually seek for the group. It then just becomes a matter of selecting the books with the most to offer with the lowest prices. Then I purchase them and hold onto to them until I have enough to send you a list. Knowing that there are many members of our group who are old enough to remember people like John Alden Knight and Joe Brooks, I also purchase these books for our members who may enjoy reading and collecting the books written by former casting greats.
What I find extremely interesting is something I have mentioned several times before. When you read these older casting books, it becomes evident that very few things are actually "new". And almost all new accomplishments in casting are directly linked to technology and the development of new materials for both rods and lines. And for whatever it is worth, some of these people were truly excellent casters, Frank Steel, Joe Brooks, Jim Green, John Alden Knight, Cliff Netherton, Charles Ritz and others almost too numerous to name. Also something people who refuse to take a casting lesson might be interested in knowing that many of the more memorable anglers were also excellent casters, George LaBranche for one was well-known for his accuracy. And I could go on to name many more, but as an accomplished caster yourself, you would take this for granted. People who are proficient casters catch more fish.
And lastly, casting has given me much personally. I would like to give something back, and making these books available at my cost is my token gesture toward that end.
Regards,
Bob
