[GH] Here is an announcement for a workshop on fly casting physics to be presented at W. Yellowstone by Server Sadik:
Let me make note of a workshop I am presenting on Tuesday afternoon, August 30 at the Conclave (Actually prior to general Conclave).
The workshop is about casting physics and inevitably will get into advanced topics in fly casting. Its aim is to speak to what actually happens in competent fly casting and correct some misconceptions which are frequently stated within the realm of common wisdom. The structure of much of the workshop has been framed so that statements are made about the important elements in fly casting in everyday language and then these elements are proven//demonstrated with what we could call props. The props make it easier to see what is happening and will allow workshop attendees to be able to reproduce equivalent props at home and examine the system’s dynamic behavior at home at their convenience. I am pretty certain the attendees will learn about some things that they had no previous experience with. There are some elements that involve equations but I have also tried to attach these too things we can demonstrate//see in the class on a direct basis. In some cases the attendee may want to contact or visit a university near them to confirm that an equation or two has the meaning I have associated with it. Since this is not an easy material to master I have broken it down and will be suggesting that some points (I am trying to identify those that are the most difficult to remember) be memorized and then the attendee can go back to the class material to review and question the basis for such points.
I am hoping the workshop will be populated with casting experts but see that the CBOG meeting is all day Tuesday. I would like to present this material to all that would have a strong interest in fly casting and if some of you are going to be at the conclave but are tied-up on Tuesday I would consider redoing the workshop on a following day if there are a suitable number of requests.
Sort of a Summary of What is to Come;
1. Primary rod loading has a maximum duration of 0.25 seconds (modern high performance rods) for primary rod loading dictated by rod structural dynamics – Rod unloading promptly then.
2. Rod unloading (considering 1st structural mode and disregarding effects of 2nd mode) occurs in 0.1 s and dominates affects contributing to rod tip-line velocity. During this 0.1 second the caster continues to apply the same kinds of loads as during rod loading – there are no “stopping” activities – and this is simply because the caster persists in holding the rod in his hand
3. The rod butt angular velocity//turning during rod unloading changes because of the fly rod structural dynamics - The caster actually tries to prevent “stopping”
4. Preload and Kickback and Rod Angle – You will be shown graph of tailing loop
5. Higher performance and highest line//rod tip speed achieved by generating greater rod deflections when using a flexible fly rod. The statement is different when using rods with minimal deflection (Steve Rajeff – ACA video)
6. Tailing Loops – rod tip rising during rod unloading phase//0.1 second
The best to everyone - Server
