    Walter & Group....

[GH]  That we can learn from other disciplines such as tennis, skiing and golf is obvious.

Chuck Easterling and Peter Minnick referred me to the works of one of the most famous Golf teachers of all time, Harvey Penick.

When I read his "Little Red Book" and "The Wisdom of Harvey Penick, I was struck by the similarities in the principles of teaching both golf and fly casting ...... this despite my not having played golf since my days as a teenager caddy during the 1940's. *

I was just touching on the subject of being comfortable with your casting and making is as natural as breathing to a student.

I made reference to the golf analogy of being comfortable with the execution of the swing, and I used the following.

Jimmy Burke at Champions Golf Club here in Houston told me to make a good golf swing you need to feel like Jello!

The other analogy I like also is Sam Snead:  to make a good golf swing " You need to feel Oily!"

All point to being loose and natural in the application of the task being performed.
