    Walter & Group...

    [GH]  From Jim Phillips :

    Gordy,

"Some public libraries have several of the recommended books available.  I was fortunate to live close enough to the IGFA campus to be able to take advantage of the fabulous Elwood Harry Library there.  I made many trips there to read material I didn't have including the 1875 page two-volume tome, TROUT by Ernest Schwiebert (a fly fishing historical masterpiece which was long out of print ... copies going for $500.00 to upwards of $1200.00 ! ).  I now have a treasured copy given to me as a  present .  * *    ***

You have also mentioned the value of the practice tests.  When given properly, this can go a long way to polishing a candidate with respect to both knowledge and casting / teaching skills.  True for both CCI and Master candidates. I won't go into more detail on that subject, since Kirk Eberhard is about to help launch this as our next topic.

    ***  TROUT, by Ernest Schwiebert, 1978, 1984, ISBN 0-525-24269-4 (Vol. I & II set)

    Gordy"

    Two items:

    1. I just ordered the DVD "Never Name the River" (2004 lazyriver.net)  about the 1965 flyfishers conclave in Eugene, Or and the founding of FFF and the Mckenzie Fly Fishers (MFF).  Do you know anything about the facts or value of this DVD?

    2. Referencing your note below on TROUT, I  met Ernie Schwiebert at an FFF conclave and discussed his architectural designs and the process of building the Air Force Cadet Chapel in Colorado Springs. After our meeting, I unsuccessfully bid twice for his masterpiece. Then, eager to own this masterpiece, I again put in bids for two separate auctions. The good news is I was successful. The bad news is I won BOTH.    So, If anyone wants  this treasure, I will sell one of my copies  for what I paid ( $375) and ship anywhere in Continental US for that price.  This is the 1984, 2nd edition, 1834 pp. 2 vols., original brown cloth binding and slip case.

    [GH]  Jim,

WOW !!!  An incredible bargain.  I'd love to see one of our Study Group become the proud owner of this rare find !

As this mounts as a collectors item, the going price may go even higher over the years.  The amount of time and effort Ernie put into fly fishing literary research is astounding.

I must admit, i don't know anything about the "Never Name The River" DVD.  Love to see your report after you have studied it.
