Dear Friends:
I have just produced a new DVD,
"Tomorrow?s Fly Fishers" with the help of Tim
Rajeff, Rachel Andras and Lori-Ann Murphy, photography by Todd
Moen. It is a simple, fun, easy-to-follow
instructional DVD adventure that can be shared again and again with children of
all ages. It?s sophisticated enough that anyone at any age will enjoy it, yet
specifically geared toward helping young people understand how much fun the
sport can be.
?Tomorrow?s Fly Fishers
?provides
the instructor with fun games that can be used to teach fly casting and fly
fishing. For a very modest price this DVD provides a great wealth of information
for successfully introducing young folks of a wide range of ages to the joys of
fly fishing.
Just as importantly it provides young people with a fun
introduction to what fly fishing is all about in a relaxed manner. An excellent
teaching aid.?

If you have any young people in
your life, or know anyone in the sport that does ? this video needs to be part
of their collection ? it?s fun, it?s informative and it can ordered at:

"TLT" CASTING
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TLT casting by Roberto Pragliola of Italy, from Misako Ishimura :-
Hi
Gordy,
Hope that you have a nice weekend.
Since Mark and you are pointed out the straight path of the rod tip
toward the last stop of during the presentation cast, I would like to mention
about TLT
cast, "Tecnica di Lancio Totale" - Total
Casting Technique
This
casting style is concentrated at end of the stroke.
Hold a
rod next to a reel and move it in the straight line toward the last stop so that
you can move your rod tip in the straight line and turn it in a quick ark
movement at the end of stroke.
When you use a long leader not to spook fish, this casting technique enables you to turn your long leader nicely even in the heavy wind. It is also good to use when you have more than two flies. I don?t believe that you should use wide loop to cast heavy flies. You need to cast them with more force by using tight loop. To avoid collision, you can locate the loop at the side instead of above your rod tip. Or use oval cast with hauling without creating the loop. When you use the wide loop, you lose the tension of the line and difficult to cast your fly where you want to accurately.
Comment: As with any novel form of casting, this has engendered interest as well as controversy over the years. All Masters should have this background information.
Note the position of the hand almost over the reel, the movement of the hand and arm and the off-horizontal casting plane. In the last video, also note that the caster finishes in a manner similar to the Lefty Kreh Wind cast (Called the "Thrust cast" by Borger).
You might wish to check out additional information on TLT casting in Jason Borger's, THE NATURE OF FLY CASTING, pp. 49 and 145.
Misako's use of this form of casting takes advantage of loop plane control to avoid a collision when using a tight loop to cast heavy flies. I sometimes use this when casting weighted flies in the salt especially when I need to keep my rod plane more horisontal so as not to spook super wary fish such as permit. Go back and read his last paragraph again to help make this clear. Another "Variable" !
