  • Re: Substance/style/apologies

    Walter....

    Just between us:

I think a "middle of the road" approach regarding absolutes and "flexibles" would make sense as a candidate takes the MCCI exam.

This can be adjusted a bit as well informed candidate begins to understand the mental mechanics of the lead examiner.

    Subject: Substance/style/apologies

    Gordy,

I'm thinking my email may not have come across too well. That was not my intent but I
sincerely apologize regardless. I find that the whole topic of substance vs style is one I
struggle with as you know and I know you must be getting frustrated with me but I think
if I can learn to handle this question then it will help me with how I come across during
    the test.

I don't want to hold back the rest of the group with my issues so if you are willing to have
some off line discussion I would appreciate it.

I think one of the reasons I find the subject frustrating is that I've learned that some people
will think in absolute terms and others are more flexible. Substance vs style is one of those
topics which, in my mind, has gray areas.

I know I have problems dealing with the people who deal in absolutes but at the
same time I know that at least 90% of the people who have passed the MCI would not have
any trouble with this area irregardless of the mind set of the examiner. I need to work on
being one of those type of candidates.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

    Walter
