  • RE: Names for LOOP articles / "Bow" analogy / Marked lines

    Title: Message
    Walter....

BETWEEN US:   I, too, mark the distal end of my fly lines with a simple weight designation code.  I don't see any problem with that for a candidate on the exam.

The CBOG vote was to disallow ANY MARKINGS WHICH WOULD ASSIST WITH THE ACCURACY TASKS.

The only other markings which were discussed were the marks at the base of the head.  That was not really felt to pose an unfair advantage or "cheating" of any kind, and so was allowed.

    Gordy,

Just between us so I'm not driving everyone else crazy.

Actually, Airflo makes a number of lines that are color coded. The head is one color and the running line is another color. I know some people who are color blind that can't distinguish between the two.

Now for the beat it to a pulp category. Marking the lines to identify weight, as suggested by Lefty,
would seem to be good thing for everyone to do regardless of how familiar they are with their
equipment. I can take it a step farther and say that I also add a mark to distinguish between an
XXD line and other lines of the same weight and color.

I really hate to ask (but I know that there are some examiners who will get irate if there is a
mark on the line other than one that identifies the end of the head because that's what the new test
will say they are supposed to do) but surely using marks to identify my line weight aren't going to
get me disqualified on the exam are they? Would it be looked upon with disfavour if I have two
small marks at the very front and very end of my line to designate the line as a  6 weight?

Thanks and sorry to go on about it for so long.

    Walter
