Fishing is becoming more about the people I enjoy and share the time with and less about the fish.

Same with me.  The fish become less important as I get older.  My fishing buddies and their successes are, now, at the forefront.

With teaching, the accomplishments of my students and the candidates I coach are also, "up front".

 

I consider it a penultimate success when one of my students can make a cast better than my own as a result of my help.

Agreed on the book.  Just read Jim Teeny's new book "Fly Fishing Great Waters" ISBN 0-9787814-0-6 that is a record of his fishing travels and companions over the course of his life.  Tom White is mentioned on p. 66 as well as His Green River experience below Flaming Gorge Dam.  Spent the whole day with Mr. Teeny that day on the Green and learned, learned, and learned from him.  Everything was accurate to the smallest detail.

 

In reality this book is a record of fishing success by a world class expert and person just like Gordy.  I am saving all of the e-mails by Gordy and, just as you Troy, it would be great reading about the poon tails and world travel fishing adventures of Gordy. 

 

Yes Sir Gordy, who but you could write such a book for eager ears and eyes!  If you read Jim's book it is first rate in every way but most especially his love for life and care for those who have shared life and fished with him, filled with sound fishing knowledge and technique.  But even more so this is a book about Celebration!

 

Just something to think about Dr. Gordon Hill!

Jim Teeny's book is superb !   Must reading for all our members.

In truth, any book about my successes in fishing would necessarily be a lot shorter than one written on the days and hours of trying without actual fishing success.   Those hours, however, result in learning the fisheries, the presentations and the ever changing faces of nature along the way and so are in no way wasted.

If you could only know the number of wonderful hours and days I spend alone in my skiff or wading the flats exploring .... sometimes simply watching the fish, shrimp, crabs, birds ..... the tides ..and the sky patterns, without so much as making a cast .  

While not in print, they are burned well into my memories.
