  • New SA, "SHARKSKIN" lines

    Walter & Group......

Thought I'd pass on some comments I've received on the new SHARKSKIN lines from SA :

    From Jerry Puckett:

    Gordy,

Glad you have had a chance to use the line. I will share with you some of

my experiences with the Sharkskin having just returned from the Hams Fork

in Wyoming. It casts with ease due to less friction and is a roll cast

delight, seems to really reduce the workload significantly. After three

days of fishing with this line no dirt accumulation. We will see what time

    tells!

Would you keep in mind this one comment from Matt at Western Rivers here in

Salt Lake when you cast distance with it. He felt that the front taper

might need a little tweaking. His experience was the line was continuing

through the guides at a distance cast making it difficult for the leader to

    turn over and straighten out.

I will be in Beau Bridge La. this weekend helping teaching a casting course

with CCI Keith Richards, Jay Clarke and Tom Jindra and will cover some of

these concerns with them in casting. Will give you feedback when I return

    next Tuesday!

Had a intermeiate caster use this line and he is headed to the store in

Chicago. I made no attempt to sell him or explain the technology. After a

day fishing with it he is going to buy this line just based on a day of

    fishing with it!

Overall, it is a great line with curves, mends and other presentation

casts. Caught a lot of big healthy rainbow with it so it does catch fish.

I was able to place it within inches of rising trout up to forty feet, very

supple line for fresh water trout fishing!

Hope you continue to do well, there is a real void when your e-mails are

absent so look forward to resummation. I guess I am a druggie when it

comes to these e-mails. I have been without a fix to long.

    Have attached a short writing!

    God bless Jerry

    From Bruce Richards :

    Hi Jerry,

Thanks for copying me, I do enjoy getting Sharkskin reports!

Matt's comments were appropriate.... Although the Sharkskin lines are great

distance lines, this particular taper wasn't designed specifically to be

the ultimate distance taper. Obviously this line must work for fishing

first, and for the average guy who buys one. There will be a line coming

specifically for distance casting and it will be fine tuned for better

casters who carry and shoot more line. To start with though, we needed a

line that would work well for most everyone, and this line sure seems to do

that! I've had no trouble with this line up to about 100 ft., but to

consistently go longer than that (for those few people who really can...),

I'll change the head length and front and rear tapers to facilitate longer

carry and better turnover at distance.

    Thanks Jerry,

    Bruce

    From Jack Minkow:

I'm the "intermeiate caster (use this line and he is) headed to the store in
Chicago" about whom Jerry writes.  As soon as I got back to Chicago I ordered the line through Trout and Grouse in Northfield, Illinois.

Of course I prefer catching fish but I've always enjoyed just casting to a target.  This line is analogous to the newer designs in golf clubs, it allows the lesser talented to feel positive feed back every time an attempt is made.

Although some more experienced fishers might feel otherwise about the sound of the line shooting from the rod, I love the "space like" low volume pitch.again it makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something special.

For fishers like me, this is a big winner.  Yesterday I stopped in Bass World (Gurnee) to ask about it and the one salesperson in the fly department hadn't yet even heard of it.

Get the word out, this line makes us wanabe's feel like pros.  I'm reminded of the feeling I get when I walk on the people movers at the airports-defying gravity, while everyone else is saddled with the normal.

    Return message from Jerry Puckett:

    Thanks Bruce,

Just returned from Louisiana working with Tom Jindra, Dr. Sid Smith, Jay Clark, Keith Richards in  a most outstanding workshop.  The Sharkskin got a great workout with instructors and students alike.  Lot of positive exposure and comments.

I fished with the line several days for trout and it excels in that realm.  I especially love the way it uncoils and stays that way.  It is easy on the arm all day and it's supple nature make presentation very accurate.  This line is a winner and I have no doubt when you design one for the distance casters it also will be a hit.

I will stay in touch and will forward this message to all concerned!

    Thansk Jerry the P
