More
on the use of the term, "pull" when teaching along with a couple of analogies
from Dennis Grant (CBOG / Owner of the Atlantic Fly Fishing School.)
Study
of concepts like this one is made easier and more clear when you have the
opportunity to read the descriptions of several experts.

Hi
Gordy
In
class we use the term 'pull'. The term (concept) of 'push' gives the student the
impression they are applying force against a resistance and the tendency is to
use upper arm and shoulder movement also rotating the wrist early. I like
the analogy of the fly swatter where one would sneak up on the fly with the
wrist cocked and then (when close to the target) quickly rotate the
wrist and stop to unload the swatter.
Similarly we use the visual of hammering a nail in the wall to hang a
picture. You stroke with the hammer in the direction of the target, then you
anticipate you are going to miss the nail (because you know the consequences of
missing and making a hole in the wall board), therefore by anticipating the miss
you use a slower stroke, a speed up (to create energy), then wrist
rotation and STOP.
Always
enjoy the comments and feed back, keep up the excellent
work.
