Just back from
Mountain Home and The FFF SOC Budget meeting. And Fishing of
course
From On Friday I was
spey casting my 567 CND for Trout in the Spring River it was Fun with
a 30+ fish day.
F Many I would
have to net too big to lift in.
As to Jim's
Questions.
I have the Student
start with the tip in or at the water, line tight on the
dangle.
RAISE the rod
(not just the tip) in a Shotgun Lift. This get the arms/ elbows
up.
Then raise the tip
lifting as much line as they can before starting the back cast. The
Anchor Must be landed down wind and current but wind is the most
important.
The anchor should be
with-in a rod length. Leader and fly line knot is what I what them to aim
for in the water.
As the casting rhythm
I say it is "power on, power off, power on, power off." This sets the
Anchor with the power off and the D loop power on pause with the power off
and cast with the power on....
I would work on
Single spey. Snake roll and C or Z cast. Then tackle the Double spey.
Working both sides and both hands up.
Grass casting will not help
set the anchor but it will help in the set up for the D loop the Snake can
be done on the Grass each circle must be bigger than the
last. Setting the anchor going the right direction is
important.
If you will make a Grass
leader you will find some drag to practices with.
The Dam back ground might
cost a leader or two.
I have found the if you are
not getting the head out of the rod you are not getting the rod
loaded.
I have marked or use
my Gravity Point lines that change colors at the end of the head. This is
moved to the rod tip or just past not more that 2 ft. for distance
casting. Just to the tip for most others.
Hope this
helps
