  • RE: longer cast

    Troy & ol Al....

Yes !  When we list the various benefits of a haul, we must include that it can be used to decrease the amount of force and the energy output of the casters rod arm/hand.

I generally agree with most of what you wrote, Al, with one exception.

Remember the haul is added to the cast to increase line speed. If your haul is not increasing the line speed you have done nothing to  improve the cast.

I have to say that there are MANY times that I could easily achieve sufficient line speed with rod stroke only, but I decide to haul anyway.  I?m not attempting to gain additional speed, I?m merely balancing input energy from two different sources to improve efficiency and smoothness of the cast.  As you?ve seen before, Al, I have to make a conscious effort to NOT haul on one of my normal casts.  Usually the only time that happens is when I?m demo?ing single handed casting to someone?  I haul at least 95% of the time while fishing, and probably 50% of those casts are under 50? (easily achievable without a haul).

    Howdy Gang

     I was rereading Wes's Email.

I Did find something that need a little more clarification.

He missed a key stroke with SPL should have been SLP "Straight Line Path" I do that too.

When making a haul or pull on the line at rod load Many say that the Haul should be a mirror image of the length of the stroke this is especially for the distance cast. This is what the MASTERS are looking for in words.
