    Dear Gordy,

A young teenage friend has been mocking me for a year about my casting practice having watch me on several occassions with her friends.  Boring to her as she often stated, "that is easy."  So I decided to bait her a little and said if it is so easy I will give you $50.00 if you can cast it 50 feet.

"I don't need any instruction give me the rod."  "O'kay here it is have at it!"  What a comical 10 minutes while she frustrated herself.  "Think you might need a little help, you were right it is easy if you know how?"   I worked with a little but that $50.00 was working on her, so back to frailing.

Johnnie, her name, you love music don't you!  Well sometimes I sing to myself while I am practicing.  Let me demonstrate and I started a relaxed casting while singing "Born Free."  I am going to let you pracitice and sing and I will just sit down and let you have some fun.

I could not believe the difference, she went to directly feeling the rod, singing and casting smoothly, eventually casting 40 feet, not bad for the first time.  She was a pretty excited young lady calling her friends and bragging about her casting prowess.

She will be back, that $50.00 is hanging over her head.  Now the challenge will be to see if she will focus on the fundamentals and learning process. We did get a singing start.

Just wanted to share this with you.  Jerry
