I agree except to add that the torque yielding the rod arc (for most casts...especially for distance) is best applied during the second phase. Server pointed that out. When Tom White emphasized that, his distance increased. Same with me.
This, "second phase", then, can be looked at as a combination of, "push" and "twist" (application of torque.) for non-engineering speakers, I suppose.

The discussions about push vs. pull sound like you do one or the
other. Certainly each concept has advantages; but I think that all
advanced casters use both:
A pull at the beginning of a cast for deep rod
bending and smooth early acceleration,
followed by a late push (hand) for
maximal terminal acceleration (accelerated acceleration) or so called
"hurry up and stop". A pull/push combination is what most of us do in
varying proportion, depending upon our individual styles. The
breakdown
into the two concepts is most helpful in making a smooth and easy
distance cast.
