I'll admit I haven't done this test in a scientific way, measuring.
However, I think that the 50% number is pretty close to right, FOR AVERAGE
CASTING DISTANCES. Very short, the percentage will probably go down. Very
long, it will probably go down also. Once the entire head of the line is
out of the rod tip shooting distance won't increase much, if at all, no
matter how much more line you carry. Rick Hartman carries 90 ft. to cast
120, a 33% shoot.
