Oh
No a new term 'Launch Angle'. While this might help some in understanding the
concept of the trajectory I am a little afraid to use such a term. I will agree
that we are launching the line or loop. What we are really doing is transferring
energy to a flexible mass. This does bring up some launch as we add the
power at the end of the stroke much like the Catapult would launch a missile. The
rod being loaded and then unloading in a given direction starts a "String of
events" it forms this energy in to a 'mystery loop' that is headed
somewhere.
It
in turn is dragging the mass of the fly line, that now has its own Kinetic
energy. What direction that Kinetic energy is headed is the 'Trajectory of the
cast'. Now what is happening along the way is outside forces of wind, gravity,
frictions, and major drag from the fly. So the "launch Angle" started it has
little to do with the over all Trajectory of the over all flight of the fly. We
can not say that a angle of 52 degrees will make the fly land at 75 feet. This
type of math I will leave to my collage degreed fellow casters. (Troy
types)
The understanding that; Trajectory is the over all path of the fly
line from loop center to loop center. Should be enough to keep the standard with
room for in flight changes.

Al....
I agree....let's not be too hasty
in, "launching" a new term......although I am attracted to the
idea.
Needs to gel in my brain for a
while.
