Wristing is a large problem here in Texas where most casters started with
spinning or plug casting outfits.
They all wrist the cast,,keeping the hand in front of the shoulder
and very low.
I have come to the conclusion that I can not stop wristing
in most casters. Hence what I can do is change; 'Where they
Wrist the rod'... I teach STROKE then wrist. I have them learn a
controlled wrist as in Joan's teaching a closed to an open wrist. But I again
work on lifting the elbow and getting the hand up at the ear level. Saying
things like "can you look at your hand by turning your head". "Do you see your
palm? Is your thumb point up?" On the forward cast I have them push the
hand forward dropping the elbow Then wrist to a close
wrist.
One more thing I ask for a "UP Cast, Behind
you" this gets the loop going more up than back and
down.
