Walter & Group:
Al and Gordy,
Great exchange. My answers were shot gun I think because of the broad base
nature of the question. Given the many variables of each class and
personality type if I were ask that question on a Masters I think I would
answer, can you be more specific of the problem and causes or do you want me to
give you specifics and give you my answers? Steve and Kens answers
are most excellent and are in my bags of tricks and ready for use so thanks good
fellers! Gordy, as an examiner what do you think? Thanks Jerry

Jerry...
To the question as to what to do with the student in your class who, "just
doesn't get it" :
As an advisor, I'd be soft....but would recommend a complete answer.
As an examiner, I'd be tough. Here, I'd want an answer which is brief
but effectively covers the two problems of:
1.) What to do with that student
and...
2.) How to do it without having the rest of the class short changed.
THEN I'd probably have the candidate expand upon his/her answer with
various options as to how to accomplish that.
I'd suspect the candidate did not have a good answer to my question if
he/she questioned that question, because it is a clear one....and one which
should be answered from the candidates own teaching experience.
Lack of actual teaching experience was felt to be a MAJOR reason for a high
flunk rate with MCI testing just a year or two ago, by members of the
CBOG. This question gets to the heart of that problem.
