Study this message on STYLE from Dusty Sprague :-
Gordy,
I think Mac is right on target....I prefer his 3rd definition, it being the
simplest. Tom said it well, as have many others in this string of
emails on style.
I like to think of style in terms I can easily explain to my students
and terms they can easily relate to in casting -- grip, stance and
body movements. I give them examples and explain that as long as
the principles are adhered to and the variables are executed well, any style
will work, although each style will have advantages and disadvantages
depending on the purpose of the cast. I encourage changing style to
take best advantage of certain style attributes, e.g., a very open -
sideways stance for ease, for most people, in making very long
strokes for distance casting, and, a closed stance (rod-foot-forward) for more
closely aligning the rod-target line with the eye-target line
for accuracy. Being a golf fan, I use golf personalities as
examples, pointing out that Tiger's grip, stance and body
movement is different than VJ Singh's, but, they both, for a long
stra ight drive, hit the ball very squarely on the clubface -- they adher to the
principles and execute the variables superbly to achieve the desired end
results.
