  • Tight loop with a soft rod / hand path adjustment

Study this carefully.  Sage advice from Mac Brown:-

    hi gordy and group,
how about tell the student that their hand should travel a longer stroke, smooth application of force -sloooow, perhaps teach a drift because counter flex will be greater with the glass rod (relax grip to dampen).  the hand may elevate to keep slp of the rod tip toward completion of forward and backward cast-to keep loops narrow (if that is what they are into).

equipment is not the culprit for poor loop sizes, etc.. because the hand path is adjusted for the action of the rod being used-ex. even a willow like rod action can cast a narrow loop once we adjust to it. this adaptation is overlooked often in fishing as well as casting. however, i would put a medium rod in their hands quick to attain more positive experiences in casting if they are new to it all. cheers, mac

A resounding YES .  Your statement, " ....the hand may elevate to keep slp of the rod tip toward completion of forward and backward cast-to keep loops narrow....."  is the answer we've been looking for.

In my view it is NOT the soft rod which is at fault, but the caster's lack of ability to accurately adjust for its action which accounts for the lack of ability to make a small loop when that happens to be desired.

    Good show !!!!!!
