    Howdy Gordy
I use the spline to make a rod for lifting as with Nymphing or for dry fly casting depending on which side I place the guide. The natural flex being set so that the soft side is down will give better forward casting and control
The offside guide placement gives better loading and release to the forward cast.
My nymphing layout also gives better lifting power with less blank strain.
But this is just my way of thinking.
