    Good suggestions.  I'll pass these on.  For one thing, you are right that "up tight" candidates do tend to shorten the stroke, and to apply too much power.

     I too just did a pretest for CCI
     
     YOU have nailed the problems that most have
     Here are some things that I would add.
     
      When doing the demo/explain casting do be the instructor.
     
     Make the loops slow so that they are easy to see.
     Tom White's "Coloring with Crayons" make bold moves.
     Big loop are just that BIG LOOPS
     
     
     I know that you will tighten up when you get to take your test.
     If you do the first thing that will happen is you will shorten your "stroke".
    At the first tendency to 'tail', open or lengthen your stroke.
    Sure I can tell you to relax but just move your hand more.
    Seeing the loop behave will take the edge off.
