Hi, Group:
I'd just like to point out 3 different writings on analyzing the fly cast......something we all need to do well as instructors. This is, also, one of the most important parts of the MCI exam.
1.) Bruce Richard's 6 step method (found in the complete Master Study Guide.)
This method starts with a problem cast. You check to see what the line did....then go to what the rod did to produce this, and then to the rod hand/arm to see what was done to make the rod do what it did. The correction is in the opposite direction, ie. correct the hand/arm movement, to correct the rod action, to correct the behavior of the line, etc.
2.) Ed Jaworowski's, TROUBLESHOOTING THE CAST.
Ed has a more simplistic approach. He will tell you that he can tell what the rod and the hand/arm have done to yield a particular fault by just watching the line and it's layout. (I, for one, don't think I'll ever be able to tell all that without watching the rod and the casters arm/hand.) Having said that, I've watched Ed do this, and I must say, he's honed this technique to an art.
3.) Article in the Spring issue of THE LOOP, by Steve Rajeff, ANALYZING THE CAST.
In this article, Steve emphasizes studying mainly 4 things in order of importance :-
1.) The Loop.
2.) The Stroke.
3.) Tempo.
4.) Trajectory.
