Jake....
Good advice.......I'll pass this on.
With some folks who just won't learn, I'd be tempted to use a Tazer if I
had one !!
Seriously, though, You make a good point with that quiet, gentle
approach. In guiding, that works
SO much better than yelling and
berating the client. I just wish more guides would take that
approach.
If I'm in the rare situation where I have plenty of eager fish, my angler
will ask me to hook one to demonstrate the technique. If I do that, I
quickly break the fish off so as not to take any more of his fishing time than
needed.

Hi Gordy:
Use one of those dog training collars, every time
that he raised the rod tip more than a foot above the water you give him a
jolt? That is probably not the solution that you were looking for but it sure
does work!
Stu and many other old timers used a very loud
voice along with many expletives to cure that problem. Again not the
solution which you are trying to find.
I find that explaining quietly to the
angler, that after the fly hits the water there is no reason to take your rod
tip out of the water until the fish jumps and you bow to the king. Also that
if you do raise your rod tip above your head that you will never, ever, catch
the mighty fish which you are paying me so handsomely to help you conquer.
Eventually this seems to get the attention of that angler and he or she learns
what all successful Tarpon anglers already know.
