    ol Al....

Yes......sometime you must get Tom White to describe the horrendous situation which occurred while he , Peter Lami and Don Jackson were fishing there one dark night as they feared the skiff would be capsized by a tiger shark of mammoth proportions as he attacked their tarpon.

I wasn't present, but got the story from all 3 of them.  Having witnessed some similar situations, I know there was no exaggeration.

Even though I know I can get many hookups there at night, I don't do that any longer.....and I think Tom may feel the same way !

I've had many an eighty or ninety pound tarpon eaten in two bites by large bull sharks.....  but this huge tiger shark looms as a different echelon of ferocity !!!!!

Once, several years ago, I had one attack our skiff off Isla Montousa, Panama.  The shark grabbed the lower unit of the outboard and twisted almost enough to turn us over.  We quickly slammed the motor into gear and, "gave him a dental job."......then got out of Dodge !!

Rick Whorwood, of our Group, will remember the time we were fishing a spot called, "Gordy's Bar and Grill" in the Keys.  He has a very understandable fear of sharks.  A large bull came up on the flat.  I decided to tease Rick, so I got in the shallow water as the shark slowly approached. (I knew I could vault up into the skiff in plenty of time if he charged.....so I kept a sharp focus on the critter).  I was getting a kick out of Rick's mounting verbal concerns, until I turned for a moment and saw two other big bulls just a few feet on the other side of me !!!  I may well have left some stains on the deck as I ejected into the skiff.

Even when trout or salmon fishing, I can't get over the feeling that something is going to attack my fish before I can land him......it's ground into my chromosomes.

For SW anglers, shark stories are like the bear stories of big game hunters......endless.

    Howdy Gordy

I have seen this many times. When I was guiding in the keys. My cure was to have the Angler say
     OH MY GOODNESS very slowly.
Then I added some more. I had the rod tip pointed at the fish. Wait until he heads one way or the other. [I told the angler that I had to know which way he was headed], I would have the angler follow the fish with the rod tip pointing towards that direction. THEN swing around and try to drag the rod tip from the mouth to the tail. Ripping in the line.
One thing you are very right on is the HIGH.
When fishing at night and the line comes tight you hear that 'Rattle in the darkness' raising up in the air just before the SPLASH is something that will fill your soul and can cause you to become a 'Tarpon addict'.
Gee I miss those nights under the Baha Honda.
