Jerry...
Good point. Teaches not to, "kill the ball".
Tom White points out to his students, that if they can hear the cast as the line whistles out through the guides, they may be using too much force.

Gordy,I have read with interest the dialogue with Walter regarding smoothness. CCI Mickey Anderson is Mr. smooth. When I first saw him teach at the Salt Lake I.S.E. Outdoor Show he was like poetry in motion and I have aspired in that direction since.Smoothness equals less work and a longer less tiring fishing day!Tomorrow I start teaching at the Salt Lake Boat show. One of the teaching aids I have found helpful in teaching a smooth accelerated stroke is a golf club called, I think, the Medicus; it has a hinged shaft which breaks if the stroke is overpowered. For those who golf it is like magic in teaching a solid casting stroke. For me the casting stroke and the golfing stoke both need the, as you so aptly say, "accelerated accceleration" to work well. Done properly and with finesse this leads to smoothness, a thing of beauty. Jerry
