[GH] Point by Paul Arden:
Hi Gordy,
with regards the video, I think it's a good thing, and it would be even better for all exams to be filmed, at least in part, as a method of assessing testing consistency and examination practices. Currently all we have are examiners notes, which in the most part are very sketchy and rarely if ever get returned to central office.
FWIW I filmed Lachie Hayes' test in Malaysia, administered by Dan and Denise. Lachie as far as I'm aware is our youngest ever CCI.
Cheers, Paul

[GH] Paul,
I'd be cool with it if filming were a matter of protocol. Sure would provide a better "record" of what went on, especially in the event of a grievance, etc.
Problems lie with the videoing of random or single exams.
Gordy

[GH] Len Anderson agrees with Paul's point :
I think being videoed during the CCI or Master exam could be a good thing, if the candidates and examiners can keep their ego in check. I think being videoed could be a great teaching tool. I say this because I would like to see if what I'm demonstrating is the same as I'm telling students. Being videoed during the exam could add extra pressure to some and help, others might not like it. I think there is room to do both, be videoed or not.

[GH] Counterpoint by Dave Lambert:
Gordy, on videoing testing -
Videoing tests may be a dangerous precedent, 'though it certainly would keep us examiners on our toes. In any case, all parties involved would have to sign off on it; and it still could become an issue, legal or privacy, if the candidate wants to, say, launch it on social media, or publish it to a website, etc.
Another thought: Videos may work against the candidate in the instance that there's a questionable response, an answer on which two instructors may differ, for instance. Under video, I suspect most of us would tend to the conservative, not to the lenient.
Unless otherwise convinced, I'd vote to keep the video out of the process. It might become a kettle we wish we hadn't stirred.
David

[GH] Additional counterpoint by Ally Gowans:
Hi Gordy,
Personally I would not allow video or recording of any sort during examinations and hope that the CBOG take the same stance. I have some experience of video production and know that it would be relatively easy to shoot from angles that might distort the truth. It would certainly affect the behaviour of examiners and candidates and increase stress levels. In addition to those concerns there is question of how the footage might be edited and how, where and when the resulting video might be used. We might find test results questioned and tests featured on the internet because it would be virtually impossible to control use.
Best regards,
Ally Gowans

[GH] Chuck Easterling weighs point vs. counterpoint :
Hi Gordy,
At first blush, some might think videoing a test would be a good idea. Some might think it might provide and a very food documentation of what occurred and a good review.
As an examiner, I would be quite hesitant to agree to a videoing of an examine. I can not explain why but often when someone turns on a video camera things change--often not for the better.
I have seen the same occur in court during a trial, for some reason the turning on of a camera often changes the judge, the attorneys and the witness--often it adds unneeded pressure and can be a distraction.
Over the past thirty or so years I have had to give interviews that I knew would be on the local news--for me it took quite a while before I felt comfortable and at ease with the "camera on."
On the other hand videoing can be helpful during practice sessions--it helps refine the presentation.
As an examiner I would be concerned about adding additional pressure to the candidate.
Chuck
